Aquarium Chiller Repairs & Install
Keep your tank stable and stocked
We repair and install aquarium chillers for reef tanks, freshwater displays, fish rooms and aquaculture. Expect fast diagnosis, reef-safe practices, and stable temps that protect fish, corals and bio-filters.
Common faults & typical repair times
(on-site labour; parts lead times can extend completion)
-
Not cooling / high-temp alarm — 45–120 mins
Check condenser cleanliness, refrigerant charge, thermostat/probe, water flow and pump. -
Frequent cycling / wide temp swings — 60–120 mins
Probe placement, controller calibration, undersized unit, poor ventilation. -
Low/no water flow / flow switch trips — 45–90 mins
Blocked inline filter, kinked hoses, pump/impeller wear, air lock. -
Icing on coil / very cold outlet — 60–120 mins
Low flow, TXV/EEV fault, low charge, sensor drift. -
Noisy operation / vibration — 45–120 mins
Fan motor, pump, loose mounts, failing bearings. -
Leaks — 45–120 mins
Hose/barb seals, cracked fittings, evap corrosion (quoted if major). -
Controller/board faults — 60–150 mins
Sensor, relay, PCB replacement and re-commission.
What we check first (no guesswork)
Water temp trend, setpoint and differential, actual flow rate (L/h), condenser/airway, probe position, pump health, electrical load, refrigerant pressures, and cabinet ventilation clearance.
Install & sizing done right
-
Heat-load sizing: tank volume, ambient, lighting (LED/T5/MH), pumps and room gains.
-
Hydraulics: correct pump size and head for manufacturer flow spec; bypass/manifold if sharing a return.
-
Ventilation: keep heat exhaust away from the stand; maintain rear/side clearances.
-
Controls: accurate probe placement, narrow but safe differential, high-temp alarm.
-
Power: dedicated circuit/RCD where required; drip loops and IP-rated fittings.
Reef-safe maintenance that actually prevents failures
Quarterly in warm months (six-monthly otherwise):
-
Clean condenser and intake screens
-
Inspect/replace inline filters and pump impellers
-
Verify probe accuracy and controller calibration
-
Leak check, electrical tightening, performance test under load
-
Descale water side with reef-safe procedures (no copper)

FAQs
What temp should I run a reef tank?
Most reefs sit 24–26°C with a tight ±0.5°C differential. We’ll set and verify.
My chiller runs constantly—undersized?
Maybe. Could also be poor airflow or high room heat. We size correctly and improve ventilation.
Do you service freshwater systems?
Yes—same process, just different target temps.
Can you plumb the chiller off my main return?
Often, with a bypass to hit the manufacturer’s flow spec without starving the display.
How often should I service the chiller?
Quarterly in summer or for high-load tanks; six-monthly otherwise. Filter and condenser hygiene are critical.
